On the heels of their 50th anniversary, Brompton has introduced some exciting new changes to their full line of folding bikes!
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Or, if it ain’t broke–even if it actually works just about perfectly–why not make it even better? That’s what Brompton has done for their brand new fleet of folding bicycles, which are now available at J.C. Lind. After 50 years of sharing folding bikes with the world, Brompton has unveiled some new changes to their iconic design that will make it even more practical, efficient, and fun for city riding.
Let’s begin where it all began with Brompton, the C Line. You might notice that this looks just about the same as the C Line we’re all familiar with, and you’re right. The C Line’s main frame geometry is the same iconic design that Andrew Ritchie developed fifty years ago, and the bicycle still folds in the same way. The major change is a redesigned rear triangle of the bike, aka the Advanced Rear Triangle, which provides more stability in the folded position and was designed in conjunction with Brompton’s revamped gearing options.

Starting with this new quiver of bikes, Brompton will offer 4-speed and 12-speed options. The 4-speed bikes feature Brompton’s specially developed rear derailleur, which is combined with a 3-speed internal gear hub on the 12-speed bikes. The 4-speed is a simple system that is perfect for day-to-day city riding, especially in flatter cities like Chicago. Riders in hillier areas, looking to travel often, or hoping for a little more high-end speed will find plenty of gear with the 12-speed option.
The new rear triangle was designed in conjunction with Brompton’s revolutionary new electric assist system, e-Motiq. Unlike Brompton’s previous front hub motor, the e-Motiq system is powered by a rear hub motor, which allows for the electric assist to feel like a helpful push on the same wheel that you’re pedaling.

For the first 62 miles of riding, the e-Motiq tracks stats like speed and cadence to learn more about your riding style and adjust to your needs. In addition to a personalized ride, this helps the Brompton give more accurate projections of battery life. e-Motiq also features Start Assist, a tool for start-stop city riding that helps you get up to speed quickly. The e-Motiq system is a massive breakthrough for Brompton and for urban transportation, a uniquely versatile solution for getting around town.

Brompton has made potentially the biggest changes to their lightweight P Line bikes. The P Line, both electric and non-electric, still features the steel main frame, but with a fully titanium rear triangle, a carbon fiber fork, aluminum handlebar support, and Superlight components to save weight. In addition, the P Line’s front end has been redesigned for superior ride feel and handling; overall, Brompton has very thoughtfully developed the P Line into the bike it was always meant to be.

And, last but certainly not least, Brompton has introduced a range of beautiful new colors across all bikes!
The new Bromptons are here in the shop and ready to roll. Come check them out, take them for a test ride, and ask us any questions you may have about these exciting changes from Brompton!
