Introducing Ozmo Helmets

Ozmo Helmets are an excellent new option for child safety, specifically designed for kids riding in family e-bikes.

With more and more families adopting cargo e-bikes for daily transportation, there are more and more riders and young passengers looking for helmets that will keep them safe on city streets. The parents have it easy: plenty of designs, features, and colors to choose from, rated for e-bikes up to 28 MPH. But the options are slimmer for the children who ride along in these cargo bikes. 

Kenny Perkins, a helmet design and development veteran with experience at companies like Bern, and Casey Charron, a mechanical engineer who worked at the esteemed Virginia Tech Helmet Lab, noticed this “safety gap” in the market and decided to close it. They teamed up to form Ozmo, with the mission to create an e-bike certified helmet designed specifically for children. 

The result is the Ozmo Sidekick, the first kids’ helmet to be certified to NTA 8776 for e-bike speeds up to 28 MPH. Ozmo recognizes that kids’ heads are distinct from adults’s heads, and their design reflects this. The Sidekick uses low-density foam that gives a softer construction for softer skulls. The Fidlock buckle is both easy to use and avoids any pinching, and a flatter profile on the back of the helmet makes it comfortable for riding in trailers or bike seats.

One of Ozmo’s signature developments is Damage Defense. Ozmo understands that kids drop things (adults, too), and most helmets are not designed to sustain small, repeated drops like that. The Sidekick features shock absorbers to separate the ABS outer shell and EPS foam, so that the shell can take minor drops and bumps without weakening the foam over time. This technology ensures that daily wear-and-tear won’t reduce the safety of the Sidekick helmet. In addition to all of this, the Sidekick includes the tried-and-true MIPS technology for rotational safety. 

All that safety information is great for parents, but Ozmo didn’t forget what kids care about: colors! The Sidekick is available in a range of fun, bright colorways, including a number of custom illustrated designs. Plus, the helmet features a dedicated Charm Slide where kids can customize their helmet with any Croc-compatible charms. For chillier weather, Ozmo offers a Cold Weather Kit that helps keep the fun rolling despite the conditions.
