Tern's newest cargo bike is here!
Even when a company we know and love releases a new bike, it's never guaranteed that we'll stock it. Those who've been in our shop will know that our footprint is on the cozy side of things, so a bike needs to be special to earn a spot on the floor. To bring on a new model, we want to be sure that it meets a need not satisfied by something we already sell. The Quick Haul Long is one that we've been eager to get our hands on since we first heard whispers of its release, and we're thrilled to finally have them in stock!
What is it about the Quick Haul Long that we're so excited about? It's the most maneuverable, easy to handle two child carrying bike we've had in the shop. Up until this point, the GSD was Tern's only bike capable of hauling two passengers (up to combined rear rack load of 220 lbs, or a max gross vehicle weight of 440 lbs, whichever comes first). While Quick Haul Long doesn't have quite the all-out carrying capacity of the GSD (it can handle 198 lb on the rear rack, with a max gross vehicle weight of 419 lbs), it opens the door to two child carrying at a much more accessible overall package.
At a starting price of $3,799, the Quick Haul Long also jumps into Tern's line up as a more affordable high capacity cargo bike than the GSD, which starts at $4,499. A 9-speed derailleur keeps costs lower than comparable bikes spec'd with belt drives and internal gears, while offering riders a familiar and responsive shifting system. Tern also skips the front suspension on this one, which helps to both save a few bucks and keep the weight well below its big brother, the GSD.
We're happy to see the Quick Haul Long come standard with a sturdy double-leg kickstand, a feature we think is all but essential for keeping a cargo bike stable while wrangling kids onto the rear rack. As with all purchases from Tern, you're also buying into an incredibly robust selection of compatible accessories. Front racks, child seat configurations, high capacity panniers, rain covers, and many more add-ons are available to kit our your Quick Haul Long to fit your use case.
Otherwise, the Quick Haul Long comes standard with much of what we look for in a high quality cargo bike: integrated lights and fenders, highly adjustable handlebar and seat post height, quality Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, and puncture resistant Schwalbe Pick Up tires. It sports Bosch's highest torque motor, the Cargo Line, running on their System 2 internals. This setup provides 85nm of torque and a maximum of 400% assist up to 20mph, with a 500 Wh battery that's good for an estimated 26 - 53 mile range. As for durability, Tern runs all their cargo bikes through a rigorous series of test that go above and beyond the minimum standards that bike companies are required to meet.
Like what you see? Come on by, bring the kids, and take the Quick Haul Long for a test ride!
